Welcome

Welcome to Saint Agnes School!   Saint Agnes certainly is our "home away from home."  I am privileged to begin my second year here.  The 2019-2020 school year will be forever remembered as the COVID-19 year.  Yes, Covid-19 is a terrible virus which has caused much anxiety and loss of life.  We continue to remember the sick and those who have died.  They will remain forever in our prayers.  We have learned much since March 13th when we closed our doors for what was supposed to have been two weeks.  Here we are, many months later, after months of listening, learning, and literally re-configuring our lives, ready and willing to open school again.

This year, the faculty and I prepared for two schools: an in-person and a virtual school.  Since Catholic Schools typically are in-person, the Virtual School had to be built from the ground up. This could not have happened without the SPIRIT of collaboration and deep love for teaching which I experienced among our faculty and staff.  I consider each one my hero because they are willing to be on the front lines daily doing what they do best:  teaching our students about our faith life, which they live daily, and providing an excellent education for our students.  Truly, it doesn't get any better than this!

I recognize that open communication and collaborative relationships with parents continue to be a key to our school’s success!  Covid-19 forced me to collaborate with parents and students on zoom often.  These zoom sessions fueled my desire to share on a regular basis with parents.  The sessions were informative, collaborative and refreshing.  I thoroughly enjoyed them!

I am grateful also to our parents who contributed their time, talent and resources to help us get through COVID-19.  They will be remembered in my thoughts and prayers each day.   Their generous spirit  is contagious!  It has left a lasting impression on me.

There is no doubt that COVID-19 has challenged us spiritually, physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually.  We are stronger now because we have come to realize the importance of each day.  Let us begin each day with a spirit of gratitude for what is and what will be, knowing that God in his infinite wisdom will always hold us in the palm of His hand.

Blessings!

Sister Michele Smith, IHM, Principal
